On Monday, 11 December, St. Mary’s hosted their annual Carol Concert in the Chapel at Leeds Trinity University
Thomas receives two prizes at the prestigious Wharfedale Festival of Performing Arts
St. Mary’s Music Department Summer Concert 2017 took place on Wednesday 12 July.
Congratulations to Yingzhe Feng (9W), Kathryn De Souza (9W) and Daniel Cullen (9P) who recently competed in the Aireborough Rotary Young Musician competition against students from Horsforth School and Benton Park.
Our music students busked in Leeds City Centre to entertain the public and raise money for our school charities.

Year 8 student Daniel Cullen was last week involved in a memorial service to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.
Four St. Mary’s students performed in the ‘Battle of the Acts’ at Guiseley Theatre last week.
On Saturday evening, Year 10 students Keith Bray, Sylvia Cullen and Kathryn Bradley sang at the First Direct Arena in front of a full house, accompanying world star Barry Manilow!

During the final week of term a special concert took place in our Performing Arts Studio with performances from our talented GCSE musicians.

Musical extravaganza showcases the formidable musical talent of GCSE and A-level Music students
The very best of St. Mary’s talent was on show February 4–6 2015, when the musical “We Will Rock You” was brought to the school stage. This year’s production has been a huge success with sell out performances over three nights.

Extra-Curricular Opportunities
The Music department offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities for performers at all levels such as:
- Jazz Band
- Orchestra
- Chamber Choir
- Pop Choir
- Ukulele Orchestra
- Rock bands
Whether a beginner or a more experienced instrumentalist, St. Mary’s Music Department offers instrumental tuition on most instruments. These lessons take part during the school day, on a rotational timetable, with professional tutors who can guarantee progression and enjoyment.

Oh Lord, please bless this music that it might glorify your name. May the talent that you have bestowed upon me be used only to serve you.
Let this music be a witness to your majesty and love, and remind us that you are always watching, and listening, from your throne above.
May your presence and beauty be found in every note, and may the words that are sung reach the hearts of your people so they will draw closer to you.
May your Spirit guide us through every measure so that we might be the instruments of your peace, and proclaim your glory with glad voices.

Curriculum
Key Stage 3
All students study Music during Key Stage 3 and receive a music lesson every week. Pupils are taught in mixed ability classes.
