Favourite Fiction Display

Books suitable for different age groups chosen by St. Mary's staff and students. The new 'word cloud' display near English celebrates our school's love of reading!

Favourite Fiction display April 2015

The 2 meters wide circular vinyl features 90 'favourite fiction' suggestions based on:

  1. Pupils who nominated their favourite books in English lessons
  2. Several staff nominations
  3. The most popular books from our Learning Resource Centre (based on number of times withdrawn)
  • The most popular books are written in larger type.
  • Divergent trilogy by Veronica Roth was the top suggestion
  • Our well-read pupils nominated many literary classics such as Crime and Punishment, Frankenstein and Pride and Prejudice.
  • Manga titles such as the shōnen series Death Note and shōjo series Vampire Knight were included due to their enduring popularity in our Learning Resource Centre.
  • Each author was only allowed one entry*
  • Sometimes the title of a series of books is given on the display.

Thank you to every pupil who nominated their favourites!

“I’m delighted with the favourite fiction display. There were a large number of books nominated by staff and pupils alike which displays St. Mary’s School’s love of fiction! I hope the display inspires the pupils who will walk past it everyday and encourages them to try a new read. Reading fiction is not only fun, but widens the vocabulary, improves spelling and aids exam technique. My advice: pick a (suitable) book from the display and get reading.”
