“We are so proud of all six squads. The wins are an amazing whole school achievement and all the boys have shown great determination throughout the season. They are fantastic ambassadors for the school. Special credit must go to all the staff who give so willingly of their time to coach the teams. The remarkable success is even more special it falls in the school’s 50th Anniversary year and David Geldart’s final year of coaching football at the school.”

The Year 10 team, coached by Mr Miranda, recorded a total of 34 goals in the competition.

“A huge congratulations to the Year 10 football team for the great team spirit displayed throughout the season. This achievement only comes after hard work, humility and a fantastic group atmosphere. Great scoring figures (34!) that without a doubt will be increased in upcoming games. Well done boys!”

The Year 9 team, also coached by Mr Pringle, have thoroughly enjoyed the season. They also played in the final of the Leeds Cup at South Leeds Stadium (their first Leeds Final) but unfortunately were narrowly beaten.  However, they also made it to the finals of the Merit Cup and the Champions Trophy.

Sixth Form

The U19 Sixth Form team, coached by Mr Geldart, won the North West League and Leeds Schools Merit Table (our first Sixth Form football trophies for 7 years).  Going for a unique ‘treble’ the U19 team also reached the final of the Leeds Schools Merit Cup Finals.  At the final, Mr Geldart, who will retire from St. Mary’s this year, received a special award from Leeds Schools FA for his ‘outstanding commitment and contribution to school Football over a 35 year period.”

Mr Geldart and the players now look forward to the U19 Champion of Champions Final against Ralph Thoresby (or Horsforth).
