Christmas Carol Concert and Carol Services
We were very pleased to see so many parents, families and friends of the school at the Christmas Carol Service. Thank you to all staff and students who contributed to yesterday evening’s service, where students presented the programme exceptionally well and it was a very enjoyable occasion. The French Exchange staff and students were also able to join us for this Christmas celebration. On Friday morning three Carol Services will take place in school. These services give opportunity for all students to join in a school community celebration of Christmas at the start of their Christmas break.

Christmas
Senior citizens in our community enjoyed a Christmas lunch in the dining hall today. The Cafod Group are organising a Rich Man, Poor Man meal for staff and 6th form on Thursday.

Advent Appeal: The Third Week of Advent
Rejoice, so highly favoured: The Lord is with you. Luke 1:26-38
Heavenly Father may I strive to be mindful of your mercy and be a living witness of your forgiveness and love.

Thanks to the enthusiasm and efforts of students and staff. The amount raised so far for our advent charities is £1501.91. The Sixth Form Fancy Dress today produced some fantastic outfits and we look forward to many events during the course of this week.

A Christmas Prayer

Loving Father, help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds, and worship of the wise men.
Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen

Christmas Letters from Student Progress Leaders

Student Progress Leaders have written to their year groups giving information and news about past, current and future events.

7 December update

A prayer for the second week of Advent
Come long expected Jesus. Excite me in the joy and love and peace it is right to bring to the manger of my lord. Raise in me, too, reverence for the God who acted there, hearty gratitude for the life begun there and spirited resolution to serve the Father and Son.
I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, whose advent I hail. Amen.

During this time of “Advent, Season of Love”, we draw from Pope Francis’ recent Apostolic Exhortation and we will as always concentrate our fundraising efforts on our four main charities: Cafod, Catholic Care, St Gemma’s and Martin House. We will also support the work of St. Vincent de Paul in all they do to change the lives of families living in poverty across Leeds.

Events will take place to fund-raise and to share Good Will. Forms are being asked to provide goods and make up Christmas hampers as we always do at Christmas time; the hampers will be passed on for distribution through St Vincent de Paul.

Advent Sixth Form Event: Sixth Form Fancy Dress: Tuesday 13 December.

Advent Whole School Event: The whole school community are invited to join in the Christmas theme fund-raising day next Wednesday 14 December: swapping an item of uniform for some festive attire - such as jumpers instead of blazers, ties or socks. Alternatively, students and staff can add a Christmas item, such as a hat, to their normal clothing: donations of £1 will be collected on the day by Form 8F

  • Guess the name of the teddy: Guess how many sweets in the jar:
  • Hot chocolate sales and donut sales
  • Reindeer Lollipops and Christmas Candy Canes sale
  • St. Mary’s Got Talent on 9 December
  • Bake-off on 14 December: a competition for staff and a competition for students: entry £1

Christmas Dinner
Senior citizens in our community have been invited into school to join us for Christmas lunch in the dining hall with students from Years 7. We look forward to sharing our festive Christmas lunch in this way.
Christmas Dinners are offered to each year group in the last week of term:
Tuesday: Y7 and Senior Citizens
Wednesday Y11, Y12 and Y13 and French Exchange students and partners
Thursday: Y8, Y9 and Y10

Traditional Christmas Dinner will be served in the Dining Hall. For £2.75 students will be able to enjoy a full Christmas lunch of turkey with all the trimmings, a pudding, a drink and, of course, a Christmas cracker. Payment will be on the normal cashless card system: please ensure there are sufficient funds on student cards for them to purchase a Christmas dinner.
