The Sports Leaders awards and qualifications equip young people with employability skills for life, improving motivation, self-esteem, communication, team work and confidence. Leadership volunteering is a vital part of all Sports Leader courses, allowing young people to practise and build their skills in order to ‘Give More. Become More.’

The courses provide training for volunteers to enable them to lead sport and recreational activities within lunchtime and after-school clubs, sports festivals, tournaments and community sports events.  Taking part in Sports Leaders activities improves behaviour through increased self-confidence and self-worth and gives learners the opportunity to take responsibility, increase understanding and empathy with others whilst helping to create a supportive and cooperative atmosphere.  The qualifications are nationally recognised.

As an Approved Assessment Centre for the initiative, St. Mary’s are delighted to announce that the school has recently been awarded Sports Leaders UK Leadership Academy status, in recognition of the long-standing relationship with Sports Leaders UK.

“We are delighted to receive Sports Leaders UK Leadership Academy Status. This is in recognition of the staff and students at St. Mary’s who have gone the ‘extra mile’ to achieve high standards of leadership, with a positive impact on the local community.”
