Four St. Mary’s students were lucky enough to be a part of the Fairtrade Celebration Event which was held in the Banqueting Suite of Leeds Civic Hall on 9 March.
The event was organised by Leeds Development Education Centre, an educational charity which has been raising awareness of global sustainable development issues with people in West Yorkshire for over 30 years.
Tom Allen, Sam Clifford-Hassan (Year 10), Charlotte Oredecki and Hannah Jenkins (Year 7) represented St. Mary’s and were accompanied by Mrs Hayes. The event was attended by both primary and secondary pupils who enjoyed the whole experience. The St. Mary’s students were joined by the Lord Mayor of Leeds who was interested to hear about Fairtrade activities held within school.
The pupils undertook a 'Divine' chocolate tasting activity which went down very well, along with two separate workshops. They also took part in an activity which they want to try out at school - so watch this space .....
