Six St. Mary’s students recently took part in the regional heat of the National Debating Competition at the Blessed St Thomas Holford Catholic College, Altrincham.
The team, consisting of Alice Thornton, Martha Marjoram, William Miller and Noah Spenceley (Year 7) and Frances Halewood and Hannah Jenkins (Year 8) won the first debate but unfortunately lost the next two. Noah was named as one of the Top 10 speakers on the day from 90 students. With more than thirty schools taking part this is a great achievement.
The students picked up some great tips for next year’s competition and will be looking for more opportunities to debate against other schools in the future.
