St. Mary’s students have worked for many years with Sports Leaders UK, gaining Sports Leaders awards and qualifications.  These awards equip young people with employability skills for life, improving motivation, self-esteem, communication, team work and confidence. Leadership volunteering is a vital part of the courses, allowing young people to practice and build their skills to help them in employment and education.

Our fantastic Sports Leaders have been extremely busy supporting primary events this week. Year 7 and 8 Netball Leaders assisted at the Year 4/5 Rhinos Netball Festival.  Approximately 30 Year 7, 8 and 10 Netball Leaders have coached and umpired at five primary netball Festivals this term.  Their officiating is outstanding for their age.  22 girls have completed the England Netball Introduction to Officiating Course.

Year 9 Leaders assisted at the Year 4 Cricket Development Day at Green Lane CC.  Dominic Edwards, Ed Hazlegreaves, Jack Wade and Jack Brady have coached and officiated at four primary cricket events this term and have been praised highly by primary staff for their professionalism.  The boys completed the YCB Leadership Course in 2017.

This is fantastic news...it is brilliant that so many students are representing the school so positively. They will be getting so much out of their experiences and no doubt the younger students will benefit from their leadership.
