“Students say that the guidance and curriculum opportunities they are given both when entering and throughout their time in sixth form is good. Due to a recent new partnership with (Guiseley) school, the sixth form has expanded so that students have a greater choice in their courses.”

Welcome to our Sixth Form

Our purpose is simple: to give all our students – whether they have been with us throughout key stages 3 and 4 or whether they have come to us from elsewhere – the best possible foundation for success in their future lives.  The Sixth Form at St. Mary’s is a vibrant place where young people are challenged to aspire, to grow and to succeed.

Academic success is at the core of what we do, rooted in the values that we share as a Christian community.  Our aspiration is that our young people leave us with the ability do what is best, both for themselves and those around them, in a rapidly changing world.

Our students can expect teaching of a high standard in over 25 different level 3 qualifications from teachers across 8 different faculties.  We challenge – and support – all our students to reach their potential, whether it is a place on a degree course at a highly selective university, or an Apprenticeship in a local firm.  Each Year 12 student is assigned to a tutor who takes an interest in their progress and wellbeing across all their subjects. The Sixth Form team includes a dedicated full-time pastoral manager and an administrator, and has many years of expertise in giving students the advice and guidance they need.

Above all, St. Mary’s Sixth Form is a place where young people can grow, and discover themselves and the wider world.  Through the extensive opportunities we offer – to take on a leadership role, to mentor and coach others, to work in the community both at home and abroad, to take part in sport, drama and music – students can develop the skills and personal qualities that complement their academic progress.  In the way they respond to these challenges, our students are both leaders and role models.  They are at the heart of this community.

St. Mary's most recent (2016) Key Stage 5 results:

  • Average point score per student: 862 (equivalent to three grade A's)
  • 46% of entries gaining grades A* to B
