Aspects of our Spiritual Life
There are many events during the school year, here is a selection:
Day Of Welcome for Year 7
This day in September is an opportunity for each form to get to know each other and to explore what it means to join the St Mary’s community.
Services Of Reconciliation
These occur during Advent and Lent. Each Year Group attends a service and students are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation afterwards, with our Deanery Priests.
Year 12 students are encouraged to take part each June in a residential retreat on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
The annual Leeds Diocesan Pilgrimage to Walsingham. Walsingham has been a site of pilgrimage since 1061 when a Saxon noblewoman, Richeldis de Faverches, was taken to the Holy Land in a vision and subsequently built a replica of the Holy House (where the Virgin Mary received news of the Annunciation).
SVP stands for St Vincent de Paul, which is a Catholic charitable group. The aim of the charity is to help the disadvantaged as well as encouraging people to help those in their local community (for example the sick, lonely, elderly or disabled, or anyone who needs assistance). The charity group believes this is best done through direct and practical assistance.
At St. Mary's we have a Youth SVP group run by a Sixth Form team. Our main focus is the care home in Guiseley (Primrose Court) which students visit weekly to have a chat and socialise with residents.
