St. Mary’s run training for all three awards and undertake a practice expedition prior to the assessed expedition for each level.

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award News Stories

“It is a worthwhile opportunity and requires students to manage their time with their studies, get involved in volunteering, learning a new skill and a physical activity. Perfect for balancing fun and something new with the academic aspects of St Mary’s. The bonus is having a fantastic award that has deep seated traditional acknowledgement of achieving a rounded young person in preparation of becoming resourceful and useful, no matter what the student may journey into in their future.

Great opportunity for all…”

The John Muir Award model is the common thread that runs though our Ullswater Residential, Duke of Edinburgh's Award and the World Challenge.

The John Muir Award "encourages people to connect with, enjoy, and care for wild places."

You can see a permanent display celebrating our school's 'Outward Bound' work in the stairwell near Room H33.
