Year 8 Residential
As part of the school extended curriculum for Year 8, all pupils in the year group are invited to participate in an annual week long residential in the English Lake District.
The residential is held at two Outward Bound Centres; Watermillock and Howtown, on the edge of Ullswater. Pupils participate in a wide range of activities including orienteering, rock climbing, rope challenges and raft building to name but a few. The main activity is an overnight off-site expedition. All activities are led by trained Outward Bound instructors and are fully supervised at all times. St Mary’s staff accompany the groups and are present at the centres, full time, providing supervision at meal times, in the evening and also on activities. This really is a fantastic opportunity for pupils to experience the outdoors and new adventures in a safe environment. It provides excellent opportunities for personal development, social interaction and a discovery of self at a key time when pupils are making important choices about their future options at school. It is also a lot of fun!
