Leeds Book Awards Ceremony
On Tuesday 20th May five students attended the Leeds Book Awards Ceremony at Leeds Central Library and Leeds City Museum. For 15 years, the Leeds Book Awards has championed the best of newly published children's books celebrating diversity of authorship, characters, and genre. The project provides unique opportunities for active participation in reading, reviewing, debating, and voting for favourite books. The students have been avidly reading the shortlisted books since January and were keen to see which book won. The day not only gave the students a chance to see if their favourite book won the prize but also the opportunity to hear all the shortlisted authors talk about their book and their life as writers. The winners were On Silver Tides by Sylvia Bishop and Young Hag by Isabel Greenberg (which was our choice as well!) We have a few of the shortlisted books to borrow from the library. The students were a credit to the school. Well done to Eve Robinson, Hannah Whiting, Anita Wade, Emily Hole and Frances Reidenbaugh.
